So the Amazon Echo doesn’t move around much — in fact, you perhaps give Alexa commands without ever looking at it. But that indicates it’s easy to ignore the layer of dust and other gross accumulation that has produced over time. Well, you can give your speaker detailed cleaning so that it looks new and sounds fantastic again.
A lint roller, microfiber cloths, and a vacuum cleaner with smaller attachments (similar to the one that is used to clean your laptop) are all great instruments to use, and we’ll tell you how and when to use them on which part of the speaker.
These tips apply to quite much every Echo speaker, from those with the touchscreen Echo Show, fabric covers like the Echo Dot and the plastic Echo Input and second-gen devices.

Your Amazon Echo is an easy target for dust and debris.
Lightly tap your Echo device
If your Echo speaker is extremely dusty, do yourself a favor and cover your mouth and nose with a medical face mask. Most importantly, you don’t want to inhale anything that’ll be coming off your device. Next, you should gently tap your speaker to get rid of any loose debris that’s dwelling on the surface — ensure you do this above a trash can to prevent getting dust everywhere. However, you should plan to vacuum the area after your thoroughly clean.
Use a toothpick to rake crumbs out of small gaps
If you’ve ever pushed your Echo devices buttons after gobbling crackers or something else that produces small crumbs, then you probably have bits of food stuck in the buttons.
Use a toothpick to take them out — if they’re stuck in there, you may need to use a sharper item like the border of a business card. We don’t suggest using knives or any object that could cut the speaker or possibly injure you.

Run a lint roller over the cloth
If your Amazon Echo has a fabric cover, use a lint roller to grab particles and dust that are sitting on top of the cloth. You’ll want to gently run it over the fabric to prevent smooshing the dirt deeper into the cloth. Since the fabric is knitted, this won’t catch all the gunk, but it’ll get everything staying on top.
Use small vacuum cleaner attachments
There may be debris or crumbs stuck in the cloth of the speaker that a lint roller only can’t reach. Use your vacuum cleaner’s small attachments to draw out all the crud. This should remove almost all of the dust and food caught on your Echo speaker.

Wipe it down with a microfiber cloth
After you’ve removed all the debris and dust from your Echo, use a microfiber cloth to give it a good wipe down to clean anything you missed. The cloth has to be dry when cleaning the speaker to avoid causing damage or making it wet.
When cleaning the touchscreen and plastic parts and touchscreen screen, you can use a tad damp microfiber cloth. This should pick up anything adhesive that may have found its way onto your device, like sugar or grease.

- Never try to clean your Echo with alcohol, stain remover, window cleaner, or pretty much any liquid that isn’t water — and then only sparsely so you don’t get liquid inside the device.
- Don’t run your Amazon Echo under the tap — it’ll ruin your speaker.
- Maintain distance from cans of compressed air — the high pressure can damage the internal speaker and microphone.
